I woke up today at 10:40 am. I stayed up last night until after 2am reading Roger Ebert movie reviews.

I'm unemployed.

There's little that you can tell others about yourself that shows how judgmental they are, than the fact that you are not employed.

It comes with a certain amount of privilege, certainly. Were I to have student debt, medical debt, credit card debt, or family debt, I almost certainly would not the time I have now. Or I wouldn't enjoy it as much, and it would cost a hefty price: in interest, foreclosure; and if I were to have a family, it could cause a split or a lack of financial support that is all but required for minors to survive in this society.

Historically, I've been employed. School, the pseudo-employment of my youth, occupied my time, and I was quick to occupy myself with internships each summer. Out of college I worked at the first full-time job opportunity I found (to be continued)

But anyways the conclusion is that we're better able to take care of ourselves when we're not expected to work for 8 hours each weekday for some other entity

ok so I'm here on my computer again, after a long summer off it. That was great. But what is a good use of time on the computer? Maybe if I'm asking myself this I shouldn't be on the computer at all.

Creating stuff is cool though! As is responding to useful emails; that makes me think about how I have a few servers to shut down and a bit of action to take on domain names. Generally stuff that costs money every month and that may not necessarily be worth it.

Watching youtube videos is endlessly entertaining; channels like Davie504, mtg stuff, esports, music theory; I spend a lot of time on that stuff and often spend too much time and feel not great after all's said and done. There's a lot of learning to be done on computers; language, food, programming; there's plenty to be done there. And it's usually a good use of time to read blogs from people like Armin Ronacher and Salvatore Sanfilippo.

I suppose there's some reflection ripe, for what to generally be spending my time on. But now I'm going to say, it's ok to enjoy my time for a bit, doing whatever I want!.

So let's say somebody wants to optimize. They spend days recording all their actions, thoughts, outputs, expectations... however they have too much fun spending all their time tracking their actions, and actually get nothing done. Eventually they are just tracking their tracking, except for the occasional bathroom break and meal. That's so meta

SO there is clearly some balance to be found within optimizing. Spend 0 time optimizing, and have some output, spend all your time optimizing, and have not so much output. There's a goldilocks point

But what does this have to do with a paradox?

I find that a paradox is the point where I can usually allow an argument to remain, content to its futility beyond that point.

Here's a paradox: somebody wants to go on a date, but when somebody takes them up on it, it turns out they didn't want it; the paradox of wanting. Of course you can't necessarily want what you already have. Maybe you can want more of it...

There's some cool connection to be made between a dampening system like friction.

And how games are good when there's some sort of reduction; if you started moving faster and faster you'd lose control, but if you slide to a stop, it's a good mechanic
