Ok first I'm going to try to get debian working with a newer kernel, because waiting for a chip to arrive in the mail is a hassle

https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v6.x/linux-6.0.5.tar.xz is my starting point

https://blog.b-ark.ca/2021/09/06/debian-on-framework.html#fn:3 is my guide

Going to try this earlier version:

https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v5.x/linux-5.15.75.tar.xz

Since the 6.0.5 version is hanging upon loading initramfs. Also there's something weird with both debian and ubuntu having a grub menu; each disagrees with the other. Now it's back to the version where windows is highlighted.

Edit: as of debian 12 everything works out of the box, since there is non free firmware in the os image
