This working example to run riscv64 on ubuntu https://canonical-ubuntu-hardware-support.readthedocs-hosted.com/boards/how-to/qemu-riscv/ maybe it'd have just been faster to actually connect my riscv computer to my monitor... software over hardware I guess. And now I have more familiarity with qemu
