Ok certificate request in ~/hack/oftc-certs:

oftc-certs $ openssl req -nodes -newkey ed25519 -keyout nick.key -x509 -days 3650 -out nick.cer

What you are about to enter is what is called a Distinguished Name or a DN.
There are quite a few fields but you can leave some blank
For some fields there will be a default value,
If you enter '.', the field will be left blank.

State or Province Name (full name) [Some-State]:Iowa
Locality Name (eg, city) []:Iowa City
Organization Name (eg, company) [Internet Widgits Pty Ltd]:Razzi Abuissa
Organizational Unit Name (eg, section) []:IRC
Common Name (e.g. server FQDN or YOUR name) []:razzi.abuissa.net
Email Address []:[email protected]

Ok it worked, really not bad at all. Had to authenticate using msg nickserv identify ... before doing /msg nickserv cert add. Probably didn't even need to provide the fields for the cert, will try that next time. Lasts 10 years.
