How to play music from the command line via vlc

There are 2 options:

cvlc

is a command line basic interface, that can be configured to exit after playing:

cvlc --play-and-exit

and nvlc, which is a cmus-like interface. Passing a folder to it starts playing at the top:

nvlc ~/music
